This topical anesthetic, used for oral and throat analgesia, enhances neuronal mitochondrial function, boosting respiration and protecting against neurodegenerative insults. It inhibits ALDH3A1, leading to accumulation of 4-hydroxynonenal, sensitizing head and neck squamous cell carcinoma cells to sulfasalazine.
