Guaiol is an orally active sesquiterpenoid alcohol from traditional Chinese medicines. It exhibits antiproliferative, autophagy-promoting, insecticidal, anti-anxiety, anti-inflammatory, diuretic, and blood pressure-lowering effects. It induces apoptosis in non-small cell lung cancer cells by regulating RAD51 stability through autophagy modulation. Guaiol directly inhibits parasite growth by affecting the kinetoplast, mitochondrial matrix, and plasma membrane of promastigotes, killing amastigotes at an IC50 of 0.01 µg/mL. It's useful in cancer, infection, cardiovascular, and inflammatory disease research.
