Description

Orotic acid (6-Carboxyuracil), a pyrimidine nucleotide and RNA precursor, is released from mitochondrial DHODH for cytoplasmic UMP synthase conversion to UMP. It's a marker for newborn screening of urea cycle disorders and can induce hepatic steatosis and hepatomegaly in rats.
