Orotic acid (zinc), a precursor in pyrimidine nucleotide and RNA biosynthesis, is released from mitochondrial DHODH for cytoplasmic UMP synthase conversion to UMP. It's a marker for newborn screening of urea cycle disorders and can induce hepatic steatosis and hepatomegaly in rats.
