An antilipidemic drug that inhibits LDL cholesterol oxidation, preventing foam cell formation and atherosclerotic lesions. It inhibits ABCA1-mediated cholesterol efflux without affecting scavenger receptor-mediated efflux. Protects neurons from peroxide-induced damage and activates glutathione peroxidase-1.
