Ferroptosis Analysis Service for Plants
During heat shock, plants undergo a cell death process similar to ferroptosis, but the exact mechanisms and networks remain poorly understood. Protheragen provides plant ferroptosis-related assays to help our clients conduct in-depth research on related topics.
Plant Ferroptosis-like Cell Death
Ferroptosis is an iron-dependent, oxidative, non-apoptotic form of cell death that was originally described in mammalian cells. Recent studies have found that a cell death process similar to ferroptosis can be triggered by heat shock in Arabidopsis. Thus, ferroptosis may be a form of cell death that is conserved between animals and plants.
- Heat Stress Induced Ferroptosis-like Cell Death in Plants
Extreme changes in temperature during the hot summer months can lead to plant cell death, resulting in severe agricultural losses. In studies on Arabidopsis, it was found that root hairs trigger cell death after heat shock treatment, but that this cell death process can be inhibited by pretreatment with the typical ferroptosis inhibitors Cpx and Fer-1. These results suggest that an ferroptosis-like form of cell death may be induced in Arabidopsis cells because of specific environmental stresses.

- Mechanism of Ferroptosis-like Cell Death in Plants
Exposure of Arabidopsis root hair cells to heat shock (55°C) triggers cell death that is accompanied by ferroptosis features such as mitochondrial crinkling, cytoplasmic shrinkage, and lysogenic vesicles, and this cell death is accompanied by elevated iron and ROS but reduced glutathione levels, suggesting that this may be a cell death phenomenon like ferroptosis. Other studies have shown that the same cell death occurs when rice is infected by pathogenic bacteria.
