Foxo1
Fox protein has a highly conserved DNA domain consisting of 110 amino acids, the Forkhead domain. In mammals, the Foxo family has four members: Foxo1/FKHR/Foxo1A, Foxo3/FKHRL1/Foxo3a, Foxo4/AFX, and Foxo6. Foxo1 is highly expressed in adipose tissue, heart, spleen, and brain, Foxo3 is mainly expressed in skeletal muscle, cardiac muscle, and neurons, Foxo4 is highly expressed in cardiac muscle, and Foxo6 is only expressed in specific areas of the brain.
Foxo1 not only plays an important regulatory role in tumorigenesis, but also plays a transcriptional mediating role in glycolipid metabolic diseases, including gluconeogenesis, glycogenolysis, pancreatic β-cell function, and adipogenesis.
