Description
2,2′-Bisquinoline-4,4′-dicarboxylic acid dipotassium salt (BQC) is a water-soluble bisquinolyl ligand. The oxidation of alcohols to the corresponding aldehydes and ketones can be performed by a variety of methods and remains one of the most important reactions in organic synthesis. BOC is used for the aerobic oxidation of alcohols (primary, secondary and benzyl) in the presence of palladium catalyst. The results show that the catalytic system composed of CuCl2 and BQC can efficiently and selectively oxidize secondary benzyl alcohol, allyl alcohol and propargyl alcohol into the corresponding ketones under phase transfer catalytic conditions. The catalytic system is stable and can be recycled and reused several times without losing activity. Since the reaction solvent is only water and the oxidant is air, it can be used as a solvent-free green alternative to traditional oxidation methods. BOC is also used as an aqueous catalyst for nitrile hydrogenation. As a complexing agent, BOC can assist in the identification, extraction and quantification of metal residues. BOC is used for the determination of copper in wine. It combines with Cu(I) and forms a water-soluble complex with strong absorption at 562 nm.
