Datasheet

Description

Annexin V is an anticoagulant protein that indirectly inhibits the thromboplastin-specific complex, a component of the blood coagulation cascade. It achieves this by competing for binding sites, particularly phosphatidylserine binding sites found on platelets, with prothrombin and coagulation factors. Annexin V also inhibits the activity of phospholipase A1. In patients with antiphospholipid syndrome (APS), an autoimmune disorder associated with thrombophilia, antibodies against annexin V can be detected. These antibodies target phospholipid compounds. Annexin V serves as a valuable tool in the annexin V affinity assay, where it is used to identify cells that have expressed phosphatidylserine on their cell surface. This feature is observed in apoptosis and other forms of cell death.
