Biological Buffers
A biological buffer is a solution widely used in biochemical research that can maintain the pH of a solution relatively stable when adding a small amount of acid or alkali. Many biochemical reactions and metabolic processes within cells are very sensitive to specific pH ranges, so buffer systems are required to maintain appropriate pH. There are many types of biological buffers, which are widely used in many experimental systems.
The working principle of buffers is to maintain the pH value of the solution through the coexistence of acids and bases present in the solution to offset the addition of external acid and alkali substances. When an acid or base is added to a solution, the acid and alkali components in the buffer react with it, absorbing or releasing hydrogen ions, thereby preventing drastic changes in the pH of the solution. The correct selection and preparation of buffers can ensure the stability and accuracy of the experimental system, thereby better conducting biochemical research.
