Description
Act as a receptor with high affinity for both nicotinic acid (also known as niacin) and D-beta-hydroxybutyrate. This receptor mediates increased secretion of adiponectin and decreased lipolysis through G(i-protein)-mediated inhibition of adenylyl cyclase. To achieve this pharmacological effect, higher doses of nicotinic acid than those found in a normal diet are required. It also induces apoptosis in mature neutrophils when activated by nicotinic acid. Activation of this receptor leads to reduced cAMP levels, which may impact the activity of cAMP-dependent protein kinase A and phosphorylation of target proteins, resulting in neutrophil apoptosis. The potency order for displacing nicotinic acid binding is 5-methyl pyrazole-3-carboxylic acid = pyridine-3-acetic acid > acifran > 5-methyl nicotinic acid = acipimox >> nicotinuric acid = nicotinamide.
