Peptides
Peptides are compounds formed by connecting α-amino acids with peptide bonds and are intermediate products of protein hydrolysis. A compound formed by the dehydration and condensation of two amino acid molecules is called a dipeptide, and a peptide composed of three or more amino acid molecules is called a polypeptide.
The main use of peptides in diagnostic reagents is as antigens for detecting antibodies against viruses, cells, mycoplasma, spirochetes, etc. Polypeptide antigens are more specific than natural microbial or parasite protein antigens and are easy to prepare. Therefore, the assembled detection reagents have low false negative rates and background reactions for detecting antibodies, making them easy for clinical application.
