(±)-Propranolol Hydrochloride
Description
(±)-Propranolol hydrochloride is a β-adrenergic receptor (β-AR) antagonist (Kds for human β1, β2, and β3-AR are 6.91, 0.832, and 117.49 nM, respectively). It also acts as a non-specific 5-HT1/5-HT2 serotonin receptor antagonist, reducing transaminocypromine/L-tryptophan-induced hyperactivity in rats. (±)-Propranolol hydrochloride is an effective antihypertensive, cardiodepressant, and also used to treat angina pectoris. It reduces the effects of stress and exercise on the heart by reducing contraction rate and impulse conduction. Known to competitively block the effects of catecholamines.
